Sony has recently announced Team LFG, a brand-new addition to its growing PlayStation studios family. It’s going to create immersive multiplayer worlds where you can build lasting connections. Sony’s ecosystem will expand with multiplayer talent.

PlayStation Studios announces Bungie’s newest game

Earlier this week, Sony announced that teamLFG had officially spun off from Bungie. They’re the ones who made Destiny and Marathon. The Bellevue-based teamLFG joins PlayStation Studios as a fully-fledged development team.

A popular phrase used by gamers seeking teammates for multiplayer adventures is “LFG” – “Looking For Groups” in gaming.
The studio’s choice of name clearly reflects their commitment to social gaming.

Focus on Interactive Multiplayer Worlds

Team LFG says it wants to create “immersive multiplayer worlds powered by action games that players can play and master for hours”4.
Their first project is a mix of fighting games, platformers, MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas), life simulation games, and even games they playfully refer to as “frog-type games”.

Its mission emphasizes multiplayer, and the studio focuses on community-building so players can “find friendship, community, and belonging.”.
As the team plans to “grow the game and community for years to come,” these immersive worlds won’t just be temporary gaming experiences.

A Lighthearted Approach to Multiplayer Worlds

Team LFG’s approach seems more lighthearted than some of PlayStation’s more serious games. “You’ll live in a lighthearted, comedic world set in a mythic, science-fantasy world”.
It looks like PlayStation is diversifying its studio offerings to include more diverse tones and styles.

It seems the studio wants its players to remember the time they changed the story. The focus on sharing exciting gameplay moments aligns with modern gaming trends where communities come together around shared experiences.

PlayStation’s Growing Studio Network

Team LFG is the latest addition to PlayStation Studios. The company joins a prestigious network that includes Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Guerrilla Games, and Santa Monica Studios. Sony’s substantial investment in gaming talent is reflected in PlayStation Studios, which has over 20 development teams across multiple countries.

Team LFG continues PlayStation’s strategy of buying existing studios and creating new ones. As of March 2025, Sony has also created Dark Outlaw Games, another studio helmed by Jason Blundell.
However, Sony has also closed several studios in recent reorganizations, including London Studio, Neon Koi, and Fire walk Studios.

PlayStation’s Vision for Innovative Gaming Experiences

The addition of team LFG shows PlayStation’s commitment to offering diverse gaming experiences. It’s clear PlayStation wants to strengthen its multiplayer offering, even if they’ve built their reputation on single-player narrative adventures like The Last of Us, God of War, and Horizon.
Sony’s growing network of studios now includes games from racing simulators like Grand Turismo to action-adventure games to role-playing games, and now team-based multiplayer.
Team LFG hasn’t shared details about its first project yet, but the studio’s formation represents an exciting development for PlayStation fans.
